William F. Holshouser

William F. Holshouser, age 84, of Highland, IL., died Sunday, May 9, 2010, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL. He was born January 8, 1926, in Madison, IL., the son of William and Margaret (nee Breyer) Holshouser. On May 1, 1954, he married Mary M. \"Marge\" Holshouser, nee Luber, who survives. Bill was born at Madison, IL and at age 14 moved to Troy, IL. He graduated from McCraw Dewey High School in 1944. He attended Washington University for a year adn then went into the service. He was a graduate of SIU-Edwardsville when he attended night classes while working full-time.. In 1949, at the age of 23, Bill was elected to the office of Alderman on Troy, IL City Council serving until 1953. During his term in office he spearheaded an effort to fund and install a city wide sewer system in Troy. (He acted as liaison between the contractor and the city to insure the proper and timely building of the sewer system.) He served with the US Merchant Marine on board several differnt ships. He later served US Army from 1953-1955 at Fort Gordon. Bill had worked for over 40 years at Union Electric in St. Louis retiring in 1988. He was a negotiator in their Industrial Relations department. He enjoyed bowling in his younger years, painting in oils, played gold as an avocation and really enjoyed playing cards. He played Pinochle and Bridge. He and his wife had played Bridge in 4 table group for many years. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church-Highland, IL. He was also a member of St. Vincent dePaul; Highland Optimist Club (former member); Past Honor Club President; Highland Knights of Columbus 1580; Past Grand Knight Highland KC\'s; President 2008-2009 Weinheimer Sr. Citizens; Volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital. Survivors include Wife-Mary M. \"Marge\" Holshouser, nee Luber of Highland, Ill., Son-Dr. Alan W. (Cindy) Holshouser of St. Charles, Mo., Daughter-Anne M. Register of Plano, Texas, Daughter-Lynn M. (John) Borcherding of Baldwin, Mo., Daughter-Jane L. (Mike) Durnin of Sappington, Mo., Daughter-Mary E. Kuhlmann of Ferguson, Mo., Daughter-Karin S. (Ron) Zbinden of Highland, Ill., Grandchild-Christopher A. Holshouser, Grandchild-Abby J. Holshouser, Grandchild-Stephanie A. Register, Grandchild-Kelsey L. Borcherding, Grandchild-Thomas J. Borcherding, Grandchild-Sean M. Durnin, Grandchild-Katie P. Durnin, Grandchild-Hannah S. Durnin, Grandchild-Nathan M. Kuhlmann, Grandchild-Grace E. Kuhlmann, Grandchild-Gina M. Zbinden, Grandchild-Tanner A. Zbinden, Brother-James (Betty) Holshouser of Caseyville, Ill., Brother-Edward (LaDonna) Holshouser of Glen Carbon, Ill., Sister-Carolyn Lee of Troy, Ill. He was preceded in death by Father-William J. Holshouser, Mother-Margaret ---- Holshouser nee Breyer, Grandchild-Rebecca J.
