Wilbert Raymond Wheeler

Wilbert Raymond Wheeler, age 87 of Highland, IL, finished his mission on this earth Sunday, November 15, 2020, at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra, IL. He was born on Sunday, August 13, 1933, in Mason, IL, the son of Jonathon and Alma (nee Verdeyen) Wheeler. On November 09, 1952, he married Shirley Jean Smith at Dieterich, IL. She survives in Highland, IL. He was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Wilbert grew up in Effingham, and married Shirley Jean Smith on November 9, 1952. He proudly served 20 years in the Air Force and retired in Highland, Illinois. He then worked for Datalog Electronics for another 15 years. He and his wife were missionaries in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served four missions at Martin’s Cove in Alcova, WY. He and his wife were also workers in the St. Louis Missouri Temple for 19 years. Wilbert was a skilled carpenter, beekeeper and loved his family dearly. He hosted yearly family reunions at Lake of the Ozarks. He taught his children many life skills, such as camping, mushroom hunting, car and home repair. He always needs help holding the flashlight and used this opportunity to spend one on one time with each of his seven children. He was always there to help his children if they needed him and he will be sorely missed. Survivors include : Wife - Shirley J. Wheeler, nee Smith, Highland, IL Daughter - Sandra (Douglas) Neidholdt, Grain Valley, MO Daughter - Twilla (Douglas) Sleeth, Bonaire, GA Son - Steven (Tina) Wheeler, Highland, IL Son - Rodney (Jeanna) Wheeler, Troy, IL Son - Bradley (Kerry) Wheeler, Highland, IL Daughter - Deborah Alma Wheeler, Highland, IL Grandchildren - 17 Great Grandchildren - 18 Sister - Janet Murphy, Houston, TX Sister - Dixie (Kenny) Harms, Neoga, IL Sister - Laura (Gerald) Knierim, Effingham, IL He was preceded in death by : Father - Jonathon Wheeler Mother - Alma Wheeler, nee Verdeyen Daughter - Susan M. Newton Sister - Norma Wheeler Grandson - Joshua Neidholdt Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Graveside Services will be held at Oakridge Cemetery in Effingham, IL, on November 23, 2020 at 2:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Family.
