Wanda Lee Schmidt

Wanda Lee Schmidt, age 88 of Highland, IL, died Thursday, October 31, 2019, at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra, IL. She was born on Sunday, August 23, 1931, in Hoopeston, IL, the daughter of Ralph and Erma (nee Eberly) Sills. On Sunday, June 17, 1951, she married Donald E. Schmidt at Hoopeston, IL, who passed away on Saturday, June 13, 1987. Former member of First Congregational Church, Highland; former member of Faith Baptist Church, Highland; member of Daughters of the American Revolution; Order of the Eastern Star, Highland; and Auxiliary to St. Joseph's Hospital, Highland. She was born and raised at Hoopeston, IL; graduated from John Greer High School 1949; attended Century College of Medical Technology in Chicago in 1951. She worked at Danville, Lakeview and Saint Elizabeth Hospital as a Lab Technician. She moved to Highland in 1964 and worked for Saint Joseph's Hospital, Highland, and retired in the early 1970's. She and her husband operated Ledon's, making picture frames, custom framing, sold office supplies and housed Don's CPA Business. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and taught oil painting at the Highland High School for years at night. She painted the original Bulldog that hangs in the Highland High School office. She and her husband were one of the original founding members of the Highland Booster Club. She and her husband were very active in the Silver Lake Shrine Club. She was active volunteering with the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary in the gift shop and with Meals On Wheels. Survivors include: Son - Steven G. Schmidt, Litchfield, IL Son - Allen E. She was preceded in death by: Husband - Donald E. Schmidt - Died 6/13/1987 Father - Ralph L. Sills - Died 5/15/1983 Mother - E. Ruth Sills, nee Eberly - Died 7/25/2007 Sister - Phyllis Hosfield-Kinchelo. Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 05, 2019, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Funeral Service will be at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 05, 2019, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, with Rev. Leonard E. Pye, Pastor, Faith Baptist Church, Highland, IL, officiating. Graveside Service will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Church.
