Shirley Roggenkamp

Shirley Roggenkamp, age 81 of Highland, IL, died Thursday, August 04, 2011, at Faith Care Center in Highland, IL. She was born on August 13, 1929, in Troy, IL, the daughter of Clement Valentine and Johanna Mary (nee Voegele) Petry. On July 02, 1949, she married Robert A. Roggenkamp who passed away on November 16, 1999. She was a member of Saint Gertrude Catholic Church. She was also a member of St. Gertrude Catholic Church Altar Sodality (former Secretary and Treasurer), Grantfork Village Board of Trustees (elected in 2000), Grantfork Village Treasurer (46 years, retiring in 1999), Leef Township Senior Citizens (Secretary, former Treasurer), former member of Ladies Auxiliary to the Grantfork Volunteer Fire Department, Meals-on-Wheels driver for many years, Volunteer at the Highland Food Pantry. Mrs. Roggenkamp was born at Troy, IL; at age 5, she moved with her family to Grantfork. She was a 1947 graduate of St. Paul Cathoic High School, Highland. After graduation she worked in East St. Louis for the Illinois Power Company for 3 months. Mrs. Roggemkamap moved to Titusville, PA to work for her uncle at the Titusville Airport and then worked at a paint and wallpaper store in Titusville. After her marriage, she and her husband returned to make Grantfork their home. She spent the next years raising her family; briefly, she had worked at the Grantfork Elementary School Cafeteria.Mrs. Roggenkamp had many hobbies. For many years, she was always seen walking every morning along the Pocahontas Road for her daily 2 miles of exercise. She was a \"big-time\" St. Louis Cardinal fan and always listened to them on the radio or TV. She kept herself busy with volunteer work; but also enjoyed putting quilt pieces together, reading and working in her yard and garden. She was a bird watcher and enjoyed taking care of them.
