Ruby M. Marcus Maedge

Ruby Mary (Streif) Marcus Maedge, age 86, of Highland, IL., died Saturday, May 19, 2007, at Saint Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She was born September 26, 1920, in Millersburg, IL., the daughter of Nelson and Frieda (Landert) Streif. On February 14, 1976, she married Glenn F. Maedge, who survives. Mrs. Maedge was born at Millersburg, IL; she was a 1938 graduate of Highland High School. Following her graduation she worked for the Moulton-Bartley Shoe Factory; after her marrige to Lawrence, she moved with him to San Fransico, CA while he was in the service during WWII. Returning after the war, she worked as a bookkeeper at Highland Builders Supply Company, Koch & Hug Garage and then at Alton Box Company retiring from there in 1976 after 15 years of service. After her retirement, she helped her husband, Glenn, operate Maedge\'s Market in Marine, IL for several years. Mr. & Mrs. Maedge moved to Highland in 1987 and have lived at Faith Countryside Homes-Apartments since. She enjoyed bowling for many years, liked to play Bingo; did fancy hand work (crocheting, quilt blocks,etc). When she was a youth, she had played with the old Highland Girls Drum and Bugle Corp. She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ. She was also a member of Ladies\' Auxiliary to VFW Post # 5694 - Highland, IL. Survivors include 2nd husband-Glenn F. Maedge of Highland, Ill., Son-Wayne R. (Dagmar Marion) Marcus of Highland, Ill., Daughter-Cheryl A. (Scott) Tibbetts of Edwardsville, Ill., Step Son-Steven W. (Laura) Maedge of St. Louis, Mo., Step Daughter-Ruthann Valencia of Tucson, Ariz., Grandchild-Laura M. (Dennis) Korte of Highland, Ill., Grandchild-Larry W. (Gina) Marcus of Highland, Ill., Grandchild-Christine R. (Michael) Grabert of Glenwood, Ind., Grandchild-Traci A. (Jeremy) Soule of Webster Groves, Mo., Grandchild-Nikki A. (Fiance Alan Schuck) Marcus of Highland, Ill., Step-Grandchildren-Andrea Stafford of Las Vegas, Nev., Step-Grandchildren-Carla Valencia of Tucson, Ariz., Step-Grandchildren-Deanna Valencia of Tucson, Ariz., Step-Grandchildren-Ryan Maedge of Missoula, Mont., Step-Grandchildren-Matthew Tuisten of Missoula, Mont., Great-Grandchildren-Six, Step-Great Grandchildren-Two She was preceeded in death by Father-Nelson William Streif, Mother-Frieda Rachel Streif, nee Landert, 1st Husband-Lawrence G. Marcus (dod 10/15/1950) Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill.
