Rolland Reding

Rolland Reding, age 82, of Saint Jacob, IL., died Monday, January 19, 2009, at Faith Care Center/Faith Countryside Homes in Highland, IL. He was born July 2, 1926, in Highland, IL., the son of Edwin and Catherine (Haase) Reding. On September 20, 1950, he married Doris A. (nee Weber) Reding , who survives. He was a member of United Church of Christ of Marine, Marine, IL;. He was born and raised on the Reding family farm just east of Highland. One of thirteen children born to Edwin and Catherine (nee Haase) Reding. Following marriage he and his wife operated a dairy and grain farm on the Reding homestead. He entered the US Army in 1954 and was stationed at various locations during the Korean War. Doris joined him during his two years of military service. Upon their return, they lived in Highland for two years. Then they moved to Doris\' parent\'s family farm southwest of Marine where they had a beef and grain farm. He was known by his family and friends to always be whistling. No particular song, just a melody. His nickname was \"POP\", given to him by his daughter and family. He enjoyed working out in the shop, playing horseshoes and checkers. He always had a garden with more vegetables than they knew what to do with. During his later years you could always find him weed eating his yard and all around his farm. A weed never had a chance. Survivors include Wife-Doris A. (nee Weber) Reding of St. Jacob, Ill., Daughter-Debbie A. (Donald) Gueldener of Moro, Ill., Granddaughter-Jennifer Lynn Gueldener of Moro, Ill., Grandson-Darren James Gueldener of Moro, Ill., Brother-Roy L. (Viola \"Tootie\") Reding of Highland, Ill., Sister-Betty Roth of Cairo, Mo. He was preceeded in death by Father-Edwin Reding (died 10/04/1948), Mother-Catherine Marie (nee Haase) Reding (died 12/31/1982), Brother-Selmar Reding, Brother-Melvin Reding (died 10/30/1952), Brother-Wilbur Reding, Sister-Irma Iberg (died 03/29/2006), Sister-Martha Warnecke (07/24/2006), Sister-Laura Reding, Sister-Stella Bohnenstiehl (died 10/06/1991), Sister-Irene Plocher (died 03/25/1989), Sister-Helen Reding (died as a small child) and Sister-Ruth Reding (died as a small child). Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill.
