Robert L. Goodson

Robert L. Goodson, age 75 of Highland, IL, died Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at Faith Care Center-Faith Countryside Homes in Highland, IL. He was born on Thursday, March 20, 1941, in Highland, IL, the son of Loyd and Vera (nee Marcoot) Goodson. On Saturday, June 27, 1964, he married Nancy K. Goodson nee Weiss at Highland, IL, who survives. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ Midway, Moro, IL; former member of Rotary and Kiwanis in Clinton, IL; Bunker Hill Masonic Lodge #151; Boy Scouts of America-Trails West Council; Wood River Jaycees ; Congregational Church in Bunker Hill, IL and St. John's UCC - Woodriver, IL. Robert was born in Highland, Illinois and grew up in rural Greenville, Illinois. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1959, attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and earned his BA degree from U of I, Springfield in 1998. He served with the U.S Air Force Reserves as a Medical Corpsmen. His career included working as a human resources director at several companies including Olin in East Alton, National Marine in Wood River, Harvard Industries in St. Louis, Thrall Car in Clinton, and Lewis and Clark Marine in Granite City.He was a District Executive for the Boyscouts of America. He enjoyed the outdoors, walking in the woods, hunting for morel mushrooms, mowing, cutting firewood and hiking and backpacking with scout troops and his son. His son became an Eagle Scout with his father's guidance. He built his family's home in the woods outside Bunker Hill. With family and friends, he traveled to all 50 states and many countries. But primarily Bob's life was defined by his deep love of community and his desire to be of service. He was an avid volunteer: active in the Wood River Jaycees; Trails West Council Boy Scouts of American, where he received the Silver Beaver Award; Rotary and Kiwanis in Clinton; St. John United Church of Christ of Midway, where he served on the church council and was active in Brotherhood and HIS Ministry. He participated in many research studies at Washington University to help find a cure and treatment for Parkinson's Disease. He will be remembered as a kind, generous, and loving husband, father, brother, and friend. Survivors include: Wife - Nancy K. Goodson nee Weiss, Highland, IL Son - Michael L. Goodson, Casselberry, FL Brother - Roland (Eldonna) Goodson, Glasgow, KY Sister - Karen ((Dale) Evans, Greenville, IL Brother - Mark (Barb) Goodson, Greenville, IL Sister - Diane (Ray) Eastep, Limestone, TN Sister In-law - Judy Goodson, Appleton, WI Brother In-law - Ted Willman, Greenville, IL. He was preceded in death by: Father - Loyd O. Goodson Mother - Vera M. Goodson nee Marcoot Brother - John W. "Bill" Goodson Sister - Susan J. Willman. Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, June 17, 2016, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at St. John's United Church of Christ Midway in Moro, IL. Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at St. John's United Church of Christ Midway in Moro, IL., with Rev. Lori Schafer, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Jamestown Cemetery in Jamestown, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to American Parkinson Disease Association, St. Louis Chapter; St. John's UCC Midway.
