Raymond M. Bertels

Raymond M. Bertels, age 91 of Marine, IL, died Monday, July 11, 2016, at Liberty Village of Maryville in Maryville, IL. He was born on Saturday, September 27, 1924, in Dorsey, IL, the son of Benard and Mary (nee Aljets) Bertels. On Sunday, February 04, 1951, he married Laurine M. Bertels nee Henke at St. John E&R Church-Moro, IL, who survives. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Highland, IL; Church Choir, Sunday School (over 20 years), Elder & Trustee for the church; Madison County Farm Bureau . Raymond was born and reared at Dorsey Illinois, on the family farm. He lived 12 years at Moro, IL; then in 1963 he moved to a farm north of Marine, IL and operated a Dairy Farm until 1987. He continued grain farming until the age of 90. He was active with church activities and farming was his vocation and avocation. He was a good example to his four sons and loved his grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, July 15, 2016, at Hope Lutheran Church in Highland, IL. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 15, 2016, at Hope Lutheran Church in Highland, IL., with Rev. Leonard C. Laetsch, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Lutheran Church; American Cancer Society; or Donor's Choice.
