Patricia T. Alberternst, age 73 of Highland, IL, died Monday, October 30, 2017, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Highland, IL. She was born on Monday, October 23, 1944, in Highland, IL, the daughter of Lester and Agnes (nee Jacober) Kirstein. On Saturday, June 05, 1965, she married James H. Alberternst at Highland, Illinois, who passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013. She was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL. She was born and reared in Highland, IL; graduated from Notre Dame Academy. She worked in downtown St. Louis, MO and later for Basler Electric. After marriage she ran a daycare business from her home with up to 19 children per day. She eventually went to SIU-E, earned a degree in Social Work. In 1991 she began working at the university bookstore and was recently promoted to assistant manager of textbook rentals. She loved reading and watching mystery and old western movies. She loved her time with her grandchildren and enjoyed working at SIU-E. Survivors include: Daughter - Aimee T. (Ryan) Cole, Highland, IL Grandchild - Anthony Jacob "AJ" Alberternst, Highland, IL Grandchild - Ayla Elizabeth Cole, Highland, IL Sister - Betty J. (Paul) Ahne, Edwardsville, IL. She was preceded in death by: Father - Lester E. Kirstein - Died 9/28/1975 Mother - Agnes I. "Aggie" Kirstein, nee Jacober - Died 3/17/2006 Husband - James H. Alberternst - Died 6/20/2013 Sister - Mary A. Mersinger - Died 10/29/1989 Sister - Lucy E. Staley - Died 12/2/1982 Brother - John L. Kirstein - Died 11/13/2013 Sister - Carol A. Beichel - Died 10/26/2014 Brother - James A. Kirstein. Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 02, 2017, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM on Friday, November 03, 2017, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 03, 2017, at Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL., with Rev. Father Pat G. Jakel, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Highland Animal Shelter or H.I.S. K.I.D.S..
