O. John "Chub" Plocher

O. John "Chub" Plocher, age 92 of Pocahontas, IL, died Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Faith Countryside Homes/Faith Care Center in Highland, IL. He was born on Thursday, January 28, 1926, in Pierron, IL, the son of Orville and Leta (nee Pfister) Plocher. On Saturday, August 26, 1950, he married Betty L. Plocher nee Foehner at St. Paul E & R Church-Jamestown, IL, who survives. He was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ; Prairie Farms Cooperative; Highland-Pierron Fire Department (Charter Member; former Captain; former Trustee for 45 years; his son Steve is the Chief for the last 18 yrs); Madison County Farm Bureau; Pierron Farmers Coop (past President); Madison County Fair (managed w/ his wife the Flea Market & Craft Show-20 plus years); Madison County Fair Assoc; Madison County Holstein Club. He was born and raised on the family dairy farm S.W. of Pierron, IL. He attended Pierron Grade School and graduated from Highland High School in 1943. He worked at Herbst's Filling Station; Alton Box Board and owned and operated a dairy farm. He retired from the dairy farm in 1985. After retirement he helped his sons with the farm. He enjoyed following the St. Louis Cardinal Baseball team; tours related to cattle; travelling to Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Mexico. He was in a Pinochle card club for many years. Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, June 25, 2018, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL, with Rev. Christopher W. Hill, Pastor. Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Highland-Pierron Fire Department or Evangelical United Church of Christ.
