M. Betty Klaus

M. Betty Klaus, age 92 of Highland, IL, died Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Highland, IL. She was born October 07, 1924, in Highland, IL, the daughter of Richard and Velma (nee Hug) Spellerberg. On November 02, 1946, she married Willis C. Klaus at E & R Church in Highland, IL. He passed away on March 11, 1997. She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ. She was also a member of EvUCC Women's Guild (Honorary Member) (Baptized, Confirmed & Married @ EvUCC); Board of Directors for Faith Countryside Homes (former Secretary); Business and Professional Women's Club (Charter Member); Order of Eastern Star; VFW Post 5694 Auxiliary-Highland (65 plus years & Life Member). . Born and raised in Highland, IL; graduated from Highland High School in 1942. After high school Betty attended Rubicom Business School, St. Louis. She worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, St. Louis, in the Personnel Department and the Plant Personnel Department. She became Office Coordinator for the Illinois South Conference, Highland, IL, of the United Church of Christ in 1959 and held that position for 30 years. She retired in 1989. She collected Raggedy Ann & Andy Dolls; her mother had made them as gifts. She enjoyed family gatherings, Christmas with family, playing the piano, bird watching and eating out. In her early years she spent time at Klaus Lake. She and her husband traveled extensively in their motorhome and wintered in Arizona. Survivors include : Son - Timothy R. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, June 02, 2017, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 03, 2017, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 03, 2017, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL., with Rev. Christopher W. Hill officiating. Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Countryside Village Condominium Homeowners Assoc.; Evangelical United Church of Christ; or to the Paget's Foundation.
