Harvey R. Jakel

Harvey R. Jakel, age 84, of Highland, IL., died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL. He was born July 23, 1924, in Highland, IL., the son of Christ and Wilhelmina (Weidner) Jakel. On March 5, 1946, he married Lorraine Gertrude (Korte) Jakel , who survives. Harvey was born at Highland, attended St. Paul Grade School and graduated Highland High School in 1942. He farmed East of Grantfork aoperating a Dairy Farm until 1985. He also had labored, and worked as a Supervisor for Korte Construction and Korte-Luitjohan Construction. He liked to play cards (Euchre, Jass, Pinchole), traveling, and reading history. He was a good family person. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church-Highland. He was also a member of Highland Knights of Columbus #1580;4th Degree Assembly; Past Grand Knight; Received KC Member and Family of the Year Award; Awarded Magnificat Award in Diocese Jubilee in 2003; Helvetia Sharpshooters Society; St. Paul Education Foundation Charter Member and Board of Directors; Saline Township Assessor and Supervisor for many years; Grantfork Vol. Fire Dept. (Member and Founder); Deanery & Diocesen Pastoral Council for Springfield Diocese. Survivors include Wife-Lorraine Gertrude (Korte) Jakel of Highland, Ill., Son-Carl C.
