Gloria M. Loebel

Gloria Marie Loebel, age 76, of Highland, IL., died Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Faith Care Center in Highland, IL. She was born November 26, 1933, in Highland, IL., the daughter and sixth child of Walter and Marie (Kast) Loebel. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church - Highland IL. She was also a member of Weinheimer Senior Citizen\'s; St. Louis Airport USO Volunteer; Faith Countryside Homes Board of Directors; St. Paul Church Pastoral Council; Highland Business & Professional Women\'s Club Charter Member & Past Pres. (1978); Highland Women\'s Club Past Pres. (2006-2008); St. Louis Ski Club Past Pres. (1994); Downtown St. Louis Partnership (Membership Co-Chairman and Board of Director\'s); City of Highland Treasurer (1978-1985); K. C. Ladies Auxiliary. She graduated from St. Paul High School in 1951. Worked in the secretarial field for various companies in St. Louis after graduation. Retired in 1998 after 25 years as Executive Assistant to Ralph Korte of the Korte Company. Previously Gloria worked for 4 years for the architectural firm of Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum (HOK). Personal assistant to George Kassabaum. Gloria snow skied for 30 years, taking her last ski trip at age 70 to Aspen, CO. She loved to travel, especially taking cruises to the Caribbean Islands. She also traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, Scotland and Europe. She loved to read, follow Cardinal Baseball and spend time with all her nieces and nephews. She was \"Aunt GoGo\" to 27 first generation nieces and nephews, 51 great nieces and nephews and one great-great niece and two great-great nephew. Having had no children of her own, Gloria often said, \"Coming from a large family and with so many nieces and nephews, I\'ve never been child deprived.\" Loved to follow politics and the stock market. Survivors include Brother-Walter O. (Shirley) Loebel of St. Peters, Mo., Brother-Leonard F. (Catherine) Loebel of Thurso, Scotland, Sister-Rosemary K. Jacobsen of Cincinnati, Ohio, Sister-Margaret G. (Richard) Forssberg of Lancaster, Calif., Sister-Grace L. (Jon) Sugg of Highland, Ill., Special Friend-Virgil J. Wilhelm of Highland, Ill. She was preceded in death by Father-Walter O. Loebel died 12/06/1973, Mother-Marie G. Loebel nee Kast died 01/31/1994, Sister-Mildred P. Loebel died 06/17/1940, Sister-Gladys C. Kayser died 08/27/1999, Brother-John R. Loebel died 08/13/1965, Brother-William R. Loebel died 11/23/1996 Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill.
