Gladys M. Frey

Gladys Marie Frey, age 79 of Highland, IL, died Sunday, September 18, 2011, at her residence in Highland, IL. She was born on Saturday, February 20, 1932, in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Henry J. and Lena C. (nee Reinacher) Staley. On Saturday, February 23, 1952, she married Donald \"Pete\" Dean Frey passed away on March 3, 2000. She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL. She was also a member of Highland Historical Society; Ladies Auxiliary to V.F.W. Post 5694. Gladys was born at St. Louis; she and her family moved to Highland in 1948. She graduated from Highland High School in 1950. She and her husband married while he was stationed in Alaska in 1952. She returned to Highland in 1953; when her husband was aboard ship. They lived east of Highland on the St. Rose Road since 1959. Gladys worked for Basler Electric, Schroeder\'s Cheese Shop and several other places. From 1977 to 1982 she had owned and operated Gladd\'s Fabric Store in downtown Highland. She enjoyed sewing and doing crafts. For over 13 years she had taken care of children at her home. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren in their sporting events and showing cattle at the Madison County Fair. She played Canasta every month with her card club. She had lunch monthly with her high school classmates. Her dogs Lexie (Sheltie) and Kodi (Shih Tzu) were always by her side. Survivors include: Son - Jeffrey D.
