Esther H. Baumann

Esther Hilda Baumann, age 93 of Highland, IL, died Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL. She was born on Wednesday, January 23, 1918, in Highland, IL, the daughter of Charles and Milda A. (nee Steiner) Casper. On Saturday, September 02, 1939, she married Harold C. Baumann who passed away on January 21, 2002. She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Chirst-Highland, IL. She was also a member of Madison County Home Extension (Past President); Honorary Member of Women\'s Guild; Hitz Home Auxiliary; Quilters of the Church. Esther was born at Highland; grew up in Saline Twp, north of Pierron \"Y\". At age 10 she moved north of Highland on the Hill what is now between Wal-Mart and the Highland Middle School. She graduated from Highland High School in 1935. She worked at the Highland Cash Store for four years after graduation. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Baumann lived east of Highland on a dairy farm and have lived and dairied there for 62 years. While helping operate the farm, she worked as a secretary at the Highland Community Schools starting in 1966 and retiring in 1979. She and her husband moved to the Faith Countryside Homes Village in 2000, and to Highland Home in 2009. She was a 4-H Leader, former Sunday School teacher, and volunteered at Faith Countryside Homes Nursing Center. She enjoyed quilting and square dancing. Survivors include: Son - Carl L.
