Elizabeth R. "Betty" Whitworth

Elizabeth R. "Betty" Whitworth, age 83 of Alhambra, IL, died Saturday, July 09, 2016, at her residence in Alhambra, IL. She was born on Sunday, August 21, 1932, in Manila, AR, the daughter of William and Effie (nee Hughes) Glisson. On Monday, October 25, 1948, at Blytheville, Arkansas, she married Martin A. Whitworth, Sr. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Alhambra, IL. Mrs. Whitworth was born and reared in Manila, Arkansas. She had lived in California, St. Louis and then Granite City, IL. The family moved to Alhambra, IL in 1959 where she and her husband operated a farm northeast of town from 1959-1985. After her husband's death, she later moved into town. In addition to helping on the farm, Betty had also driven a school bus for the former Ramsey Bus Service; worked at Oak Brook Golf Course; and helped her son with his pharmacy (Medicine Shop). She was always helping someone. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their many activities. A great cook, there were always meals at grandma's house. Betty enjoyed and was lucky playing the slots. Survivors include: Daughter - Sharri A. Whitworth, Saint Jacob, IL Son - Martin A. Whitworth, Jr., Alhambra, IL Daughter - Frances E. (Thomas W.) Whitworth-Zeller, Marion, IL Son - Danny E. Whitworth, Alhambra, IL Daughter - Jeanette A. (Michael G., Sr.) Whitworth-Gerhart, Jonestown, PA 14 Grandchildren 13 Great Grandchildren 5 Great Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: Father - William Roy Glisson Mother - Effie Belle Glisson (nee Hughes) Husband - Martin A. Whitworth, Sr. (DOD-02/28/1983) Brother - Carroll Glisson Step Brother - Daniel Guymon Step Sister - Juanita Guymon. Arrangements are being handled by Dauderman Mortuary in Alhambra, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Dauderman Mortuary in Alhambra, IL and from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Friday, July 15, 2016, at Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra, IL. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 15, 2016, at Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra, IL., with Rev. Jerry Amiri, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Salem Cemetery in Alhambra, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to HSHS Hospice; Salem United Church of Christ; or American Cancer Society.
