Delmar J. Krotz

Delmar Joseph Krotz, Sr., age 87, of Saint Jacob, IL., died Friday, December 26, 2008, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. He was born February 22, 1921, in Edwardsville, IL., the son of Joseph and Hilda (Kolm) Krotz. On January 20, 1945, he married Loretta A. Krotz nee Hackethal , who survives. \'Mr. Krotz was born at Edwardsville, Il; he grew up there. During WW II he served with the US Navy with duty as a Gunner\'s Mate on the USS Alabama in the South Pacific. On August 6, 1954, he and his wife Loretta purchased the former Frey tavern and opened Del & Loretta\'s Tavern. They operated it until selling to their sons in 1971. Del also worked for Local 520 of the Operating Engineers until retiring in 1985 with over 40 years of service. Loretta ran the tavern during the day then Del would help at night and week-ends. Always very active in the St. Jacob community, Del was a volunteer Fireman for many years; belonged to VFW Post 1299 and American Legion Post 665. Mr. Krotz also enjoyed many hobbies: fishing; gatherings with family and friends at the family clubhouse near Keyesport; hunting; raising fruits and vegetables from his garden; many, many friends; playing Euchre & Pinchole; and working in his workshop. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church-St. Jacob, IL. He was also a member of VFW Post 1299 Edwardsville;American Legion Bussong-Mersinger Post 665 St. Jacob; Former member of St. Jacob Vol. Fire Dept; Operating Engineers Local 520; former Moose Lodge @ Edwardsville; former member Highland Licensed Beverage Dealers Assoc.. Survivors include Wife-Loretta A. Krotz nee Hackethal of Saint Jacob, Ill., Son-Delmar J. \"D.J.\" (Marilyn\"Foxy\") Krotz, Jr. of Saint Jacob, Ill., Son-Michael D. (Rhonda) Krotz of Highland, Ill., Daughter-Marlene M. Krotz of Saint Jacob, Ill., Daughter-Kathy A. Acree of Moline, Ill., Son-James D. (Lisa) Krotz of Troy, Ill., Son-Steven D.
