Delmar G. Bast

Delmar G. \"Mike\" Bast, age 78, of Highland, IL, died Monday, December 8, 2008, at Kindred Care-St. Anthony Care Center, St. Louis, IL. He was born July 23, 1930, in Marine, IL., the son of Michael and Ida (Feldmeier) Bast. On November 1, 1969, he married Darlene (nee Lanham) Bast , who survives. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #355 AF & AM, Marine, IL; Unity Chapter, Order of Eastern Star (Past Worthy Patron). Mr. Bast was born on the family farm west of Marine, IL., he grew up there. He graduated Highland High School in 1948. He served with the US Army with duty in Korea. He returned to help operate the family farm after service. He farmed on his own for many, many years. He also had worked for Alton Box at Highland, Railroad at E. St. Louis, owned and operated D & D Oil Products at Edwardsville for 25 years. He also had worked for Enterprise Leasing. He operated the grain farm west of Marine. He enjoyed dirt track and Nascar racing, Cardinals Baseball and being with his large family. Survivors include Wife-Darlene Elliott Bast of Highland, Ill., Sister-Bernice Loos of Highland, Ill., Daughter-Michelle L. (Special Friend-Rich Schwierjohn) Waeckerle of Highland, Ill., Son-Michael L. (Sue) Bast of Grantfork, Ill., Son-Keith G. (Nancy) Bast of Highland, Ill., Son-Brian C. (Dawn) Bast of Highland, Ill., Son-Michael D. (Rebecca) Elliott of Highland, Ill., Son-William L. (Josie) Elliott of Highland, Ill., Daughter-Donna Sue (Jimmy) Wildhaber of Edwardsville, Ill., Grandchild-Erica L. (Fiance-Ryan Robinson) Waeckerle of Alhambra, Ill., Grandchild-Casey A. Waeckerle of Highland, Ill., Grandchild-Jamie (Matt) Todt, Metamora, IL, Grandchild-Courtney A. Bast of Grantfork, Ill., Grandchild-Sean Elliott of Highland, Ill., Grandchild-Elizabeth Elliott of Highland, Ill., Grandchild-Samantha Elliott of Highland, Ill., Grandchild-Ashley Elliott of Highland, Ill., Grandchild-Kristee Elliott of Highland, Ill., Grandchild-Tammy (Allen) Gieseking of Highland, Ill., Grandchild-Dana (Jason) Bohnenstiehl of Edwardsville, Ill. and two Great Grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by Father-Michael Bast, Mother-Ida M. (nee Feldmeier) Bast, Brother-Wilbur L. \"Mike\" Bast, died 4/25/00. Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill.
