Charles J. Burgess

Charles Joseph Burgess, age 82 of Highland, IL, died Wednesday, July 09, 2014, at his daughters home in Mulberry Grove, IL. He was born November 15, 1931, in Edwardsville, IL, the son of Kester and Tillie Burgess Franciscohne Peck (nee Hoppe). On Saturday, January 20, 1951, he married Colleen M. Frey who passed away on Monday, October 25, 2010. He was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL. Mr. Burgess was born in Edwardsville and graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1949. In 1953, he moved to Highland. He worked for Franciscohne Junk Yard and Wagner Electric in Edwardsville. He worked for Southern Equipment in St. Louis for 10 years, retiring at age 63.In their younger years, he and his family enjoyed camping. They traveled to Las Vegas, Tunica, and various casinos, especially with friends, Don and Shirley Schaffer. He was an avid bowler and bowled for many years at Hi-Top Bowl in Highland. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, and from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, on Monday, July 14, 2014, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 14, 2014, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, with Rev. Fr. Paul Kala, Pastor, Greenville, IL officiating. Interment will be at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Bond County Hospice.
