Anthony R. Zappia

Anthony R. Zappia, age 87 of Highland, IL, died Thursday, August 17, 2017, at his residence in Highland, IL. He was born on Thursday, October 24, 1929, in Boston, MA, the son of Pasquale and Teresa Zappia. On Saturday, October 25, 1952, he married Rita D. Zappia (nee Bagliesi) at St. Joseph Church, E. St. Louis, IL, who passed away on March 19, 1995. He was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church. He was also a member of VFW Post 5694-Highland, IL; Pipefitters Local. Anthony was born and grew up in Boston, MA. He served with the US Air Force during the Korean War with duty overseas. Following marriage they lived in East St. Louis, IL and moved to Highland in 1973. He worked for Union Electric in Venice, IL, retiring in 1989. He lived at Mesa, AZ from the late 1990's to 2002. He was an avid swimmer at Korte Rec Center and enjoyed playing softball as a youth and in Arizona. He loved his family and family activities. Survivors include: Son - Joseph A.
