Winnifred N. "Winnie" Rude

Winnifred N. "Winnie" Rude, age 94 of Highland, IL, died Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Highland, IL. She was born on Saturday, August 19, 1922, in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Philip L. and Grace W.(nee Randall) Pratt. On Monday, August 10, 1942, she married Waldo Rude at Pontiac, MI, who passed away on Friday, February 1, 2008. She was a member of Pleasant Hill General Baptist Church - Elizabethtown, IL and a 50 year member of Order of Eastern Star. Winnie was born in Detroit, MI. She graduated high school in Pontiac, MI. She moved to Toledo, OH and worked at an Ordnance Plant for a period of time, while her husband was stationed at Portsmouth, NH, during WWII. They moved to Hardin County, IL, north of Elizabethtown, in 1947. Her husband was a farmer and she was a homemaker. She later worked for the Hardin County School District as a bookkeeper, retiring in 1983. They moved to Highland in 2007. She enjoyed her family, reading, sewing, shopping, Silver Lake Park picnics, playing cards, working on puzzles and was very Patriotic. Survivors include: a daughter - Barbara J. Heyen, Highland, IL; two grandchildren Lt. Col. Chad L. (Lt. Col. Melissa R.) Heyen, USAF, Edmond, OK and Jean M. (Christopher) Sink, Sun Prairie, WI; five great grandchildren - Christopher Heyen, Edmond, OK, Caden Heyen, Edmond , OK, Bella Heyen, Edmond, OK, Riley Sink, Sun Prairie, WI and Zoey Sink, Sun Prairie, WI; three nephews - Francis Miller, David Miller and Bill Hastings. She was preceded in death by: father & step mother - Philip L. (Nellie) Pratt; mother & step father - Grace W. (John) Lorenz; husband - Waldo Rude; sister - Dorothea Hastings and brother - Philip Pratt Jr. Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Sunday, December 11, 2016, at Cox Funeral Home in Rosiclare, IL. Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Sunday, December 11, 2016, at Cox Funeral Home in Rosiclare, IL, with Rev. Arthur Austin Jr. of Cave-In-Rock, IL, officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Harrisburg, IL. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the family for Silver Lake Park.
