William A. Allen

William A. Allen, age 87 of Highland, IL, died Friday, February 23, 2018, at Saint Elizabeth Hospital in O Fallon, IL. He was born on Sunday, October 26, 1930, in Litchfield, IL, the son of Clarence and Inez (nee Stephens) Allen. On Friday, March 22, 1974, he married Florene M. "Pat" Allen (nee Carrillon) at Edwardsville, IL, who passed away on Thursday, December 04, 2008. William was born and grew up in Litchfield, IL. He worked at a gas station and entered the US Marine Corps in November of 1951. He was discharged in 1953 and he and his wife moved to Atwater, IL. He worked at Imperial Gas Stations in Litchfield and Carlinville. He drove a propane truck and then worked for Schien Body & Equipment. He was an avid CB Radio operator, and answered the handle "Wild Bill". He moved to Highland in 1973 and operated a bar, restaurant on Cypress between 9th Street and Main Street, and a donut shop on the west end of town. He later delivered the St. Louis Post Dispatch and Belleville News Democrat newspapers for a number of years. He started B & P Vending, providing candy and toys at restaurants, gas stations, beauty shops and banks. He retired and spent time with his family, antiquing, visiting flea markets. (Robert) Lane, Butler, IL Grandchild - Kami Eaton, Carlinville, IL Grandchild - Joey (Aaron) Crager, Oklahoma Grandchild - Jamie Thiessen, Morrisonville, IL Grandchild - Amanda Allen, Carlinville, IL Great Grandchild - Andon Stayton, Carlinville, IL Great Grandchild - Jack Stayton, Carlinville, IL Great Grandchild - Henry Eaton, Carlinville, IL Great Grandchild - Shaylie Crager, Oklahoma Great Grandchild - Dylan Crager, Oklahoma Sister - Margaret Lebeter, Florida. He was preceded in death by: Father - Clarence A. Allen - Died 8/22/1977 Mother - Inez I. Allen, nee Stephens - Died 5/31/1990 Wife - Florene M. "Pat" Allen, nee Carrillon - Died 12/4/2008 Daughter - Margaret Ann Allen Brother - Robert Allen Brother - John T. Allen - Died 1/12/1991 Sister - Mary Ann Athy Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Graveside Service will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 01, 2018, at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL. Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL.
