Vernon F. Otto

Vernon F. Otto, age 91 of Alhambra, IL, died Sunday, November 17, 2019, at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra, IL. He was born on Friday, May 18, 1928, in Alhambra, IL, the son of Fred and Florence (nee Hencke) Otto. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ; Salem Brotherhood; Alhambra American Legion Post #1147; ATA; Alhambra Fire Department; and Alhambra Community Club. Vernon was born at Leef Township southeast of Alhambra. He grew up outside of Grantfork, IL, and helped on the family farm. He was very proud of his service with the US Army; active duty during the Korean War, from Jan 1951 to Jan 1953. He was the acting Postmaster from March 31, 1953 to April 1, 1954; then he became the Postmaster of the Alhambra Post Office. He retired from the Post Office on June 29, 1990. He was a Cub and Boy Scout leader in Alhambra and the treasurer for many years for the town of Alhambra. He was an avid camper, gardener, farmer, raised cattle, traveled, wintered in Donna, TX and enjoyed eating out. Survivors include: Daughter - Mary E. (Dan) Reinhardt, Alhambra, IL Son - Michael S.
