Valista L. Hug

Valista Lena Hug (nee Schneider), age 98 of Highland, IL, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at Highland Health Care Center in Highland, IL. She was born on Monday, August 5, 1912, in Highland, IL, the daughter of Harry and Lena (nee Landert) Schneider. On Tuesday, March 12, 1935, she married Cletus Fred LaVern Hug who passed away on August 29, 2001. She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ. She was also a member of Bond County Antique Machinery Club; Highland Historical Society. She attended Highland Schools and graduated in 1929 when jobs were hard to find. She liked to sew, so she applied at the Moulton-Bartley Shoe Factory and worked there for several years before her marriage. As a result of her love for sewing, her doll was voted the Grand Champion in the first dress-a-doll contest sponsored by the Farmer\'s and Merchants Bank in Highland. Later, at the Craft Shows, she became known as the Barbie Doll Lady. She designed most of her own patterns and used scraps of material, lace, trims and whatever was available. She also enjoyed needlework and babysitting. Before her marriage, she sang in the choir at the E&R Church and also taught Sunday School for 15 years. Survivors include: Daughter - Beverly C.
