Owsley, Susan “Sue” Devan It is with great sadness that the family of Susan Devan Owsley announces her passing at the age of 89, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Debi and Al Kaufman on Monday July 15, 2019. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Terri (Jim) Falcone of Holden, Massachusetts and Debi (Al) Kaufman of Alhambra, Illinois. Sue will also be fondly remembered by her three grandchildren Nick Falcone, Devan Kaufman, and Zeke Kaufman, by her three nieces Judy Durjancik, Ellen Durjancik, and Jane Devan. Sue will also be forever remembered by her numerous cousins, extended family, and dear friends. Sue was predeceased by her husband, Don Owsley, Sister Anna Durjancik and Brother John Devan. Born January 20, 1930, to Jan and Suzanna Devan, in Myjava, Czechoslovakia, Sue’s family immigrated to Canada in 1938. She became an U.S. citizen in 1955. She attended Madison College near Nashville, Tennessee, graduated with a degree in Dietetics. She worked in the Seventh-Day Adventist Hospital system for 25 years as a dietitian. Sue loved gardening, crafting and making old things new. Having a Green Thumb she had more plants than any one person should, and enjoyed sharing them with others. She loved music, playing the piano and singing. She was a thoughtful and caring friend who always put others first. She loved cats, the outdoors and had many adventures during her life. As a mother she taught the importance of loving unconditionally, always having a forgiving heart and caring for others, especially those less fortunate. Sue shared with her daughters the value of nature, cooking, sewing, needlework, crocheting, just to name a few, and the love for animals. She taught them the importance of relying on God in good times and bad and to call upon the Lord for strength during those times when life just doesn’t seem fair. Sue, a child of God, touched more lives than she ever knew and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. A memorial service in memory of Sue will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at 10:30 a.m., at Greenbrier Cove, 4586 Forsythia Way, Ooltewah, TN, with Pastor John Bradshaw officiating.
