Robert Rochell

Robert H. Rochell, age 90, of Highland, IL., died Tuesday, November 27, 2007, at Highland Health Care Center in Highland, IL. He was born December 7, 1916, in Lebanon, IL., the son of Herman and Elizabeth (Quitmeyer) Rochell. On January 20, 1951, he married Velma M. Rochell (nee Dressel), who passed away June 30, 1998. He was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ, Highland, IL; former member of St. John United Church of Christ, Trenton, IL; member of the Plumbers & Gas Fitters of Local 360, Collinsville, IL (46 years); Life Member of Disabled American Veterans, Forget Me Knot Chapter 24. Mr. Rochell was born on the family farm north of Lebanon, IL, just east of IL Route 4. He grew up there. He had worked on the farm, helping his parents. During World War Two, Bob served with the US Army, with duty in Naples & Rome, Italy; southern France, Germany & Sicily. He was awared the Purple Heart, European/Africian/Middle Eastern Ribbon; a Silver Battle Star and 4 Overseas Service Bars.. He was wounded at Anzio, Italy. (Total Service from April 21, 1941 - June 5, 1945.) After his return home, he farmed with his brothers,labored for a few years, worked at the O\'Fallon Dairy and then started work as a plumber. He had worked for Essenpreis Plumbing in Highland and then at Brefeld Pumbing in Trenton, IL until his retirement. He also operated a hog and grain farm; and had also operated hiis wife\'s family farm (the Dressell Farm) north of Lebanon. Bob was alway active and had at one time served as the graverdigger for the Trenton Cemetery. Mr. & Mrs. Rochell moved to Highland in 1979. In his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, \"tinkering\", helping his wife with a big garden, growing flowers and being with his family. He had built a pool table for this grandsons, cabinets for his granddaughter and a stroller for his grandchildren when they were young. Survivors include Daughter-Grace A. Zobrist-Cherry of Highland, Ill., Daughter-Linda S. (Richard) Iberg of Highland, Ill., Daughter-Susan L. (Dennis) McClanahan of Highland, Ill., Sister-Edna (Carl) Smith of Lebanon, Ill., Sister In-law-Aleta Dressel of O\'Fallon, Ill., Grandchild-Lee A. (Stacy) Zobrist of Sunset Hills, Mo., Grandchild-Robert R. \"Rob\" Iberg of Orlando, Fla., Grandchild-Laura A. Iberg of Highland, Ill., Grandchild-Bryan M. McClanahan of Highland, Ill., Gr Grandchild-Cole Allen Zobrist of Sunset Hills, Mo., Many Nieces & Nephews. He was preceeded in death by his Father-Herman --- Rochell, Mother-Elizabeth --- Rochell (nee Quitmeyer), Wife-Velma Margaret Rochell (nee Dressel) (died 6/30/1998), Brother-Herman Rochell, Brother-Edward Rochell, Sister-Viola Huller, Son In-law-Gerald \"Gerry\" Cherry, Brother In-law-Marcell Huller, Brother In-law-Lavern Dressel, Brother In-law-Harold Smith, Sister In-law-Micky Rochell, Sister In-law-Marcella \"Sally\" Weidler and Sister In-law-Arlene Smith. Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill.
