Rev. John C. Riggs

Rev. John C. Riggs, age 84 of Highland, IL, died Saturday, February 05, 2011, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. He was born on May 10, 1926, in Edwardsville, IL, the son of Arthur and Louise (nee Blum) Riggs. On August 19, 1948, he married Laurene Louise Casper who survives in Highland, IL. He was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL. He was also a member of Lee Iten American Legion Post# 439, and the IL South Conference of Retired Ministers Group. John was born in Edwardsville, IL and graduated from Highland High School in 1944. He joined the US Army Air Corps. during WW II. He came home and attended College. He graduated from Elmhurst College in 1950 with a Bachelor\'s Degree. He then attended Eden Theological Seminary in Webster Groves, MO. Rev. Riggs served over 55 years in ministry, as pastor of many churches. His first church, he spent 2 years in Muscaine , IO; then at Zion Evangelical and Reform Church in Chicago, IL for 2 years; then 12 years at St. John United Church of Christ in Mascoutah, IL; and 19 years in North Aurora, IL at United Congregational Church. From there he retired and moved to Carlyle, IL for 18 years. While in retirement he served many churches as interim pastor and also was a substitute teacher in Carlyle Area Schools. He and his wife moved to Highland in 2009. John enjoyed playing golf, boating, camping, and reading. Survivors include : Wife - Laurene L. Riggs nee Casper, Highland, IL Son - John C.
