Melba Wehrle

Melba Anna-Louise (Linders) Wehrle, age 93, of Highland, IL., died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at her residence in Highland, IL. She was born August 5, 1915, in St. Louis, MO., the daughter of William and Ida (Laspe) Linders. On October 28, 1940, she married Franklin F. Wehrle, who passed away May 23, 1999. Melba was many things in her life; but what she was most of all was a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved all of her family dearly and lived unselfishly for her family, everyday until her death. She taught us many things in her life, and who we are and what we are today is because of her love, strength and courage. She left this world as graciously as she lived, and did it her way, on her terms, and according to God\'s timing. Melba retired as secretary to the Superintendent of Wellston, MO School District in May 1978. She and her husband moved to Highland to their beautiful acreage on a fishing lake. She was active in First Congregational Church, an avid and excellent bridge player, and tried to save wolves through Defenders of the Wildlife. Melba\'s family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the wonderful team at Heartland Hospice who helped us let Melba complete her journey home. Many thanks also to our friends and church families who were with us during this short but endless long vigil. She was a member of 1st Congregational Church-Highland, IL. She was also a member of Dorcus Fellowship Highland Women\'s Club-Past President Numerous Bridge Clubs Former member of Highland Country Club. Survivors include Daughter-Marcia J. (Robert) Healy of Houston, Texas, Son-William F. (Penny) Wehrle of Saint Peters, Mo., Daughter-Janis B. (Michael) Germaine of Highland, Ill., Grandchild-Jennifer (Charles) Woods, Grandchild-Allison Healy, Grandchild-Heather (Tim) Velloff, Grandchild-John (Megan) Wehrle, Grandchild-Faich (KC) Herrick, Grandchild-Tom Wehrle, Grandchild-Amber (Nick) Kole, Grandchild-David Wehrle, Grandchild-Tom (Connie) Aller, Grandchild-Bethany Aller, Gr Grandchildren-Ten ., Brother-in-law-W.C. Chapman of Florissant, Mo. She was preceeded in death by Father-William Z. Linders, Mother-Ida W. Linders nee Laspe, Husband-Franklin F. Wehrle died 5/23/1999, Sister-Dorothy L. Chapman, Family Pet-3 Collie dogs Named Candy Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill.
