Loren L. Holzinger, age 83 of Highland, IL, died Friday, December 13, 2013, at Highland Health Care Center in Highland, IL. He was born on Saturday, June 21, 1930, in Highland, IL, the son of LeRoy E. and Viola E. (nee Yann) Holzinger. On Saturday, October 15, 1955, he married Emma Lou Holzinger (nee Ritzheimer) who survives . Member of the Highland Sportsmen's Club-Highland, IL; Lee Iten Post 439-American Legion-Highland, IL; Helvetia Sharpshooters Society-Highland, IL; former member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ-Highland, IL; Mr. Holzinger was born at Highland, IL; graduated from Highland High School 1948 (the first class to complete all 12 years at the new building on Lindenthal Avenue); he was a good basketball and sports player in high school. He served with the US Air Force (4 years) in Air Weather Service, from Oct 19, 1948 to Oct 18, 1952. After the service in 1952, he started working for Jakel Manufacturing, Highland, IL, on November 21, 1952, in the Tool and Die room and retired on December 29, 1995. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was a great Jass player; he tended bar for 18 years at the VFW and worked all the fish fries. Survivors include: Wife - Emma Lou Holzinger, Highland, IL Daughter - Cindy Lou (Fritz) Jahnssen, Summerfield, NC Former Daughter In-law - Jody (Travis) McGill, Jackson, WY Grandchild - Tara M. Holzinger, Jackson, WY Grandchild - Kali M. Holzinger, Laramie, WY Grandchild - Kacey N. Jahnssen, Summerfield, NC. He was preceded in death by: Father - LeRoy E. Holzinger (died 2/3/1994) Mother - Viola Elsa Holzinger (died 7/9/1980) Son - Michael R. Holzinger (died 2/15/2002) Sister - Carol J. Fletcher (died Sept 12, 1985) Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, December 16, 2013, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, and from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, with Rev. Christopher W. Hill, Senior Pastor, Evangelical United Church of Christ, Highland, IL, officiating. Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL.
