L. John Wise

L. John Wise, age 81 of Highland, IL, died Monday, May 07, 2012, at Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, IL. He was born October 21, 1930, in Hammond, IN, the son of Harwood Olin and Gertrude Lucille (nee Taylor) Wise. On April 14, 1950, he married Shirley Ann Dubach who survives. He was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ. He was also a member of VFW Post 5694 (former Board of Director); Saint Jacob Lions Club (past president); Sheetmetal Workers Local #268; EvUCC (former President of Consistory). Mr. Wise was born at Hammond, Indiana; moved to Fayette County, IL; then Greenville, IL. He was a graduate of Greenville High School in 1948 where he was active with the Boy Scouts, basketball and life guard. He served with U.S. Army in the Korean War from 2/14/1952 and was stationed in Okinawa and was discharged as CPL on 1/21/1954. He worked for Basler Electric before and after the service. He worked for Houseman Supply Company for 20 years. In 1984 he and his wife started Duraclean Master Cleaners - cleaning carpets, homes and businesses. Mr Wise was active in Boy Scouts with his sons. He and his wife spent many winters in Arizona. They pulled a trailer to many states and thoroughly enjoyed their travels through the United States. The also traveled to Europe and cruised several times, including a trip through the Panama Canal. Mr Wise enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, and being outside. He was always ready to explore new places and particularly enjoyed riding in a glider plane to celebrate his 80th birthday. Survivors include : Wife - Shirley A.
