Laurine A. Wernle

Laurine Amanda Wernle, age 98 of Highland, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Highland Health Care Center in Highland, IL. She was born April 25, 1912, in Highland, the daughter of Herman J. and Amanda M. (nee Willmann) Steiner. On January 27, 1934, she married Raymond A. Wernle who passed away on September 25, 1999. She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ. She was also a member of EvUCC Women\'s Guild; Shuffle Club (where she won many trophies); Trinity College Church - Clearwater, FLWeinheimer Senior Citizens Club - Highland, IL; Weinheimer\'s Square Dancers;. Mrs. Wernle was born on the family farm north of Highland, IL; she grew up there. Following her marriage, she and her husband farmed (dairy, then grain and livestock) north of Highland, IL. They retired in 1961. Mr. and Mrs. Wernle lived on the farm until moving into Highland on July 4, 1977. For some 26 years, they had spent 6 months each winter in Florida. She had taught Sunday School at her church for over 37 years. She always brought sea shells back for her Sunday School Classes.
