Larry E. Prott

Larry E. Prott, age 80 of Marine, IL, died Thursday, March 09, 2017, at Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, MO. He was born December 24, 1936, in Highland, IL, the son of Eldon and Virginia (nee Heuser) Prott. On August 23, 1958, he married Delores J. "De-De" Koelz at Marine, IL. He was a member of United Church of Christ of Marine. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #355, A.F. & A.M.-Marine, IL(50+ year member); Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Southern Illinois-Belleville, IL; Ainad Temple, A.A.O.N.O.M.S. (Shriners)-East St. Louis, IL; Laborers Local 397-Edwardsville; Mid-West Truckers Association; Madison County Farm Bureau. Larry was born north of Marine and shortly after moved to the farm where he now lives. He attended Loos Country School and Marine School; then graduated from Highland High School in 1955. He served with the US Army from 1956 to 1958. He and his wife moved to a farm west of Highland where both of their daughters were born. In 1975 they moved back to the farm in Marine. Farming and trucking were his life; he operated L.D. Acres Trucking and was a Grain Farming, until retiring in 2012. His hobby was tractor pulling; he competed in the 1960's and 70's. He and his wife then enjoyed following the local tractor pulls and even travelled to Indiana and Kentucky to watch them. He enjoyed time with his "coffee buddies" up at Marine Mini Mart; butchering, cutting wood, and being with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include : Wife - Delores J. Payne, Highland, IL Half Sister - Joan (Gene) Kessinger, Marine, IL Half Sister - Karen (Joseph) Schultze, Saint Jacob, IL Sister In-law - Donna (Carl) Zobrist, Highland, IL He was preceded in death by : Father - Eldon O.W. Prott (died 6/9/1980 Mother - Virginia Prott nee Heuser (died 5/26/1942) Daughter - Gail Ann Meier (died 08/10/2011) Step Mother - Leona Mabel Prott nee Buske (died 2/6/1997) Father-in-law - Gerald Koelz (died 2/22/1998) Mother-in-law - Imogene Koelz nee Gilomen (died 8/1/2015) Half Sister - Judith Lynn Prott (died 1/06/1965) Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Monday, March 13, 2017, at United Church of Christ of Marine in Marine, IL. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 13, 2017, at United Church of Christ of Marine in Marine, IL., with Rev. Philip H. Kershner officiating. Interment will be at Marine Cemetery in Marine, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children or Masonic Lodge 355 A.F. & A.M.-Marine, IL.
