Joyce I. Hohl

Joyce Isabella (Cunningham) Hohl, age 81, of Pierron, Illinois, died Saturday, May 13, 2006, at Saint Joseph Hospital - Breese, IL. She was born September 12, 1924, in Hempnall, UK., the daughter of Walter and Isabelle Cunningham, nee Jackson. On June 20, 1949, she married Russell J. Hohl, who passed away July 12, 2001. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church-Pierron, IL. She was also a member of St. Mary Altar Society; Postmaster Association; League of Postmasters; Ladies Auxiliary of Letter Carriers-Belleville;P.I.C.; VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Hohl was born in Hempnall, England (United Kingdom); grew up there and served as a chauffeur for a Judge during WWII. She moved to the USA (St.Louis) in 1946 and became a citizen in 1955. She and her husband had lived in South St. Louis, moved to East Saint Louis, IL in 1955 and to Pierron, IL on March 6, 1970. She had served as Postmaster of the Pierron Post Office (62273) from 1971 to 1992. She had also been the Village Clerk for Pierron, IL for a number of years. Mrs. Hohl also was the Church Organist at Immaculate Conception Church in Pierron from 1973 to 1999. She was always very active in her church; taking care of the Post Office and visiting with family and neighbors. Survivors include Son-Vernon R. (Linda) Hohl of Pierron, Ill., Son-Keith L. (Tracy) Gombos of Pocahontas, Ill., Grandchild-Ashley A. (Travis) Barnett of Pierron, Ill., Grandchild-Steven R. (Gayle) Hohl of Pocahontas, Ill., Grandchild-Veronica M. (Nick) Reiman of Pocahontas, Ill., Grandchild-Emily M. Hohl of Pierron, Ill., Grandchild-Spencer K. Hohl of Highland, Ill., Grandchild-Taylor C. Hohl of Highland, Ill., Gr Grandchild-Haylie Gombos of Pocahontas, Ill., Gr Grandchild-Mary R. Reiman of Pocahontas, Ill. She was preceded in death by Father-Walter Cunningham, Mother-Isabelle Cunningham, nee Jackson, Husband-Russell J. Hohl, Sister-Barbara Cunningham, Brother-Terry Cunningham. Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Pierron, Ill. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends Van of St. Joseph Hospital; American Diabetes Association.
