J. Francis Isert

J. Francis Isert, age 94, Life Long Resident of Highland, Illinois, died Sunday, September 12, 2010, at Faith Care Center/Faith Countryside Homes in Highland, IL. He was born on Tuesday, August 29, 1916, in Highland, IL, the son of F. Joseph and Mary (nee Weidner) Isert. On Wednesday, August 18, 1948, at St. Rose Catholic Church, St. Rose, IL, he married Marie J. Isert (nee Schrage) who survives. He was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church; \"IBEW\" (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers); Life Time Member VFW Post 5694; Catholic Holy Family Society; Society of the 3rd Infantry Division.. Mr. Isert was born and grew up on the family farm south of Highland on Arkansas Road. He graduated from St. Paul High School in 1934. Following graduation he worked at Highland\'s Moulton-Bartley Shoe Factory until June 1941. He was drafted during WWII, June 1941 to Sept 1945; Staff Sergeant with the 3rd Infantry, 41st Field Artillery with the US Army. Three years overseas duty and received the Purple Heart. He returned to the farm and later began working for Basler Electric, 1954 to 1987, retiring after 33 years of service. He enjoyed volunteering at bingo, playing bingo and gardening.
