Jesse F. Knebel

Jesse Fred Knebel, age 77, of Pierron, IL., died Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at his residence. He was born June 29, 1928, the son of Osmar and Emma (Luber) Knebel. On September 1, 1952, he married Clara C. Grapperhaus, who survives. Mr. Knebel was born and grew up on the family farm south of Pierron, IL in Bond County. He served with the US Navy; returned home and was married. He had worked as a Laborer for Laborers Local 100 at the American Water Company in East Saint Louis, IL., for 13 years; Journeyman Sign painter with Advertisers Displays and Exhibits, St. Louis, MO., for 10 years; and then operated Knebel Sign Shop in Pierron, IL., until retiring and selling the business to his son, Thomas, in 1984. From age 13 to 28, he was a Catcher and Outfielder for the old Millersburg Wolves. For over 15 years, he had raised Blackneck Sichlan pheasants and released them into the wild. In one year, he raised over 3000 pheasants from eggs. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pierron, IL., the American Legion/Lee Iten Post #439, Men\'s Sodality of the church, the Pierron Improvement Club, and the Coyote Hunters Association. Survivors include his wife; Son-Terry M. (Cinda) Knebel of Pierron, Ill., Daughter-Susan M. (Mark) Poletti of Red Bud, Ill., Son-Thomas J. (Sharon) Knebel of Breese, Ill., Daughter-Barbara K. (Gary) Kniepmann of Pocahontas, Ill., Son-James A. (Catherine) Knebel of Edwardsville, Ill., Daughter-Carol A. (Gary) Richter of Highland, Ill., Grandchild-Brian M. (Tara) Knebel, Grandchild-Stephanie Marie Knebel, Grandchild-Benjamin M. (Melissa) Poletti, Grandchild-Kevin M. Poletti, Grandchild-Christina A. (Darren) Stam, Grandchild-Jessica B. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sister-Antoinette Marilyn Knebel (03/12/1959), Brother-Orville Knebel (11/03/1994), Brother-Clifford Knebel (1946), and Brother-Harvey Knebel (02/23/2003).
