Howard W. Robertson

Howard W. Robertson, age 75, of Highland, IL., died Monday, April 12, 2010, at Faith Care Center in Highland, IL. He was born August 26, 1934, in Springfield, MO., the son of Howard and Molene (nee Nelson) Robertson. On June 4, 1955, he married Norma J. (nee Massman) Robertson , who survives. Mr. Robertson was born at Springfield, MO, at an early age his famiy moved to Mitchell, IL. He graduated from Granite City High School in 1952. He received a full football scholarship to the University of Missouri where he played football for four years and graduated with a BS in Agriculture. He was also a member of ROTC and entered the US Army as a Second Lt. He served with the First Artilery Division (Big Red One). He and his wife moved to Highland, IL in 1959 where he opened the Howard Robertson State Farm Agency, which is still operating in Highland today. In college, Howard was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity; he is a member of the University of Missouri Alumni Association and many, many organizations in Highland. For years, he was a member of the football chain gang at every Highland football game. Mr. & Mrs. Robertson travelled extensively - they have been to every continent; enjoyed motorhome travel; have a winter home in Gulf Shores, AL, and have spent winter time in Sarasota, FL since 1981. Memberships: Evangelical United Church of Christ, Highland, IL, Church Consistory and Sunday School Teacher (8th grade & high school); Highland Rotary Club (joined in 1961), President (1965-66), Paul Harris Fellow and hosted three foreign exchange students; Highland Community Schools Unit District #5-Board Member (1967-1983); Highland Lodge#583, AF & AM (Masons); Ainad Temple AAONOMS (Shriners)-E. St. Louis, IL; Silver Lake Shrine Club-Treasurer; Hannah White Shrine-Past Watchman of the Shepherds; Order of Demolay-founder of Highland Chapter; Faith Countryside Homes, Past President; Alpine Savings Bank (later Highland Savings and Loan), founding Board Member; Weinheimer Community Center-basketball coach and Board of Directors; Highland Police Commission-board member; Highland Little League Football-coach; Punt-Pass-Kick program for many years in Highland. Survivors include Wife-Norma J. (nee Massman) Robertson of Highland, Ill., Daughter-Lisa J. (Don) Hunsche of Alhambra, Ill., Daughter-Cathy L. (Special Friend-John P. Deppe) Robertson of Marine, Ill. and Son-Howard E. (Terry) Robertson of Marine, Ill., Grandchildren-Shannon M. Robertson of St. Peters, Mo., Jerri Katherine Robertson of Marine, Ill., Garrett N. Robertson of Marine, Ill. and Michelle C. Hunsche. He was preceded in death by his Father-Howard Thomas Robertson and Mother-Molene Mellie (nee Nelson) Robertson.
