Hilda M. Gassmann

Hilda Martha (Strotheide) Gassmann, age 97, of Highland, IL, died Monday, December 17, 2007, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL. She was born June 11, 1910, in Jamestown, IL., the daughter of Gustav and Minnie (Remmert) Strotheide. On June 1, 1930, she married Harold L. Gassmann, who passed away January 3, 1986. She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ-Highland, IL, Women\'s Guild of the Church (Life Member);Quilters of the Church. Mrs. Gassmann was born on the family farm south of Jamestown, IL, in Clinton County. She grew up on the farm. Following her marriage, she moved to her husband\'s family home in Highland where she lived for over 73 years before going to the Highland Home in April of 2003. She had helped her husband operated the East Side Cafe in Highland; she baked cakes (creating wedding & birthday cakes); and, worked as a seamstress. She and her husband enjoyed camping, trout fishing; and Mrs. Gassmann had bowled at the VFW in Highland for a number of years; enjoyed crocheting and playing cards (Canasta). Survivors include Son-Donald L. (Carol) Gassmann of Collinsville, Ill., Sister-Pearl Gruen of Cottage Hills, Ill., Sister-Irma E. Mills of Highland, Ill., Sister-Eunice Wernle of Jamestown, Ill., Son-In-Law-David R. (companion- Audrey Friedel) Woltering of Bethalto, Ill., Grandchild-Sheila A. (Richard) Martin of Edwardsville, Ill., Grandchild-Michael E. Gassmann of Collinsville, Ill., Grandchild-Donna R. Gassmann of Alhambra, Ill., Grandchild-Pamela L. Gassmann of Collinsville, Ill., Grandchild-Carla J. (Brad) Gain of Troy, Ill., Grandchild-Robert K. (Kim) Gassmann of Maryville, Ill., G-Grandchild-Hayley Martin, G-Grandchild-Brianna Martin, G-Grandchild-Scott Capecchi, G-Grandchild-Katie Gassmann, G-Grandchild-Hannah Gassmann, G-Grandchild-Amber Gassmann, G-Grandchild-Alexis Gassmann, G-Grandchild-Josuah Gain, G-Grandchild-Jessica Gain, Nieces & Nephews-Numerous She was preceeded in death by Father-Gustav Strotheide, Mother-Minnie Strotheide, nee Remmert, Husband-Harold L. Gassmann (DOD 01/03/1986), Daughter-Doris M. Woltering (DOD 7/20/1991), Sister-Viola Strotheide (DOD 4/2/1977), Sister-Luella Senn, (DOD 5/12/2004), Grandchild-Stacey L. Grace (DOD 04/27/1989 @ age 23) Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill.
