Herbert B. Korte

Herbert B. Korte, age 86 of Highland, IL, died Sunday, January 22, 2017, at Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon, IL. He was born August 22, 1930, in Pocahontas, IL, the son of August and Clara (nee Kalmer) Korte. On October 07, 1958, he married Irma A. Wilke at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose, IL. She survives in rural Highland. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL. Knights of Columbus #1580-Highland, IL; 4th Degree Assembly Council #1580 in Highland, IL; VFW Post #5694; Catholic Fraternal Life #56, (Trustee). Herb was born at rural Pocahontas, IL and grew up there on the family farm. He attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Pierron, IL. His father died in April 1944 when Herb was 13 years old.; he helped his family ran the family farm for the next 30 years. He had worked Pierron Elevator and Highland Box Board. He also helped his neighbors with their farms. He served with the US Army w/ duty in Korea as mechanic from 1955 to 1957. After his military service he worked McDonnell-Douglas in St. Louis, MO, as a machinist, for 33 years. He retired in 1993. He drove a school bus for 13 years Laid Law. He participated with VFW Military Honor Guard for funeral details and parades. At St. Paul Church, Herb was a Hospitality Minister/Usher for over 30 years. He served as Beer Stand Chairman for 20 years at Kirchenfest. He enjoyed wood working, gardening, playing cards, working on the computer, hunting, fishing and traveling to Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, most of the USA.
