Helen P. Simmonds

Helen P. Simmonds, age 93 of Millersburg, IL, died Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Fair Oaks Nursing Home in Greenville, IL. She was born on Friday, August 23, 1918, in Marine, IL, the daughter of Edward V. and Pauline M. (nee Dietz) Miller. On Saturday, April 24, 1948, she married Sherman W. Simmonds who passed away on Sunday, December 21, 1980. She was a member of Saint Paul United Church of Christ, Jamestown, IL; Women\'s Guild of the Church; Pocahontas Senior Citizens' Club; Volunteer at Hoyleton Foundation for the Hoyleton Children\'s Home; former member of the Bond County Home Extension; Royal Neighbors of American (Member of 77 years as of 5/1/2012); She also belonged to a Bunco Club and a Pinchole Club; Weekly Rummy Games with three very close and special friends.. Mrs. Simmonds was born south of Marine, IL north of the Marine Cemetery. She lived on the farm for the first 29 years of her life. She was baptized, confirmed and married at the now United Church of Christ of Marine and will be buried on land that was originally Miller Family Farm ground that is now the Marine Cemetery. Following her marriage, she and her husband moved to Bond County, IL. She has lived in Millersburg (Pocahontas address) since 1989. Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Simmonds had worked for the Vonvy Heel Covering Company at their plant in Marine, IL and then St. Louis, MO. (She had worked there about 10 years.) She never returned to the labor force, but raised her family and helped with the farm she and her husband lived on. Mrs. Simmonds enjoyed playing bingo, crafts and making jelly.
