Harriett K. Sautter

Harriett K. (Kraft) Sautter, age 83, of Hampton, NY., died Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Apple Orchard Inn in Whitehall, NY. She was born March 13, 1925, in Oklahoma City, OK., the daughter of Arthur and Harriet (nee Canfield) Kraft. On April 13, 1946, she married Albert L. \"Al\" Sautter, who passed away October 18, 1998. She was a member of First Congregational Church - Highland IL; Board of Trustees of the Church (Secretary); Sunday School Teacher of the Church; Order of Eastern Star, Highland Chapter #524 - Highland, Il; Gray Ladies of St. Joseph Hospital - Highland, Il (former member); Highland Women\'s Club - Highland, Il (former member); Officer\'s Wives Club of U.S. Air Force; Pierian Study Group - Highland, Il (former member). Mrs. Sautter was born in Oklahoma City, OK; as a youth she lived in Kansas City, MO and moved with her family at age 3 to Highland, IL. She grew up in Highland, IL where her father owned and operated the LaFrance Shoe Polish Factory. Her family moved to St. Louis, MO when she was in high school; she graduated from Soldan High School, St. Louis in 1943. She attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL; nurses\' training at Barnes Hopsital (Washington University School of Nursing) in St. Louis; following her marriage she and her husband made Highland, IL, their home. Her husband had served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II; and was recalled during the Korean War. He remained in the military and had service in England, Thailand, Germany and the United States. Mrs. Sautter earned a B.A. from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville in 1975, graduating with honors. She taught at Highland Elementary School in 1978 after some years of graduating school. [She had graduated with the \"John T. Hughes Award\" for academic excellence in elementary education\".] Mrs. Sautter retired after 10 years of teaching. Her hobbies included reading, crocheting, gardening; she loved to play the piano; she enjoyed/loved teaching children. In 2001 Mrs. Sautter moved to Hampton, NY, residing with Mary and her husband Peter and dividing her time between Florida and New York until her recent illness. Survivors include Son-William L. Sautter of Interlachen, FL, two Daughters-Mary L. (Peter Genier) Sautter of Hampton, N.Y., and Dianne L. (Thomas) Campbell of Chicago, Ill. She was preceeded in death by her Husband-Col. Albert L. \"Al\" Sautter, USAF Retired, Parnets-Arthur and Harriet M. (nee Canfield) Kraft, Daughter-Winifred Lynn Sautter (Stillborn 1951) and Half Brother-Floyd Voss.
