Harold P. Thurnau

Harold Paul Thurnau, age 90 of Saint Jacob, IL, died Sunday, June 23, 2013, at Faith Countryside Homes/Faith Care Center in Highland, IL. He was born February 05, 1923, in Saint Jacob, IL, the son of Oliver Charles and Mary Frances (nee Liebler) Thurnau. On October 24, 1951, he married Laurine Evelyn Knebel who survives . He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He was also a member of St. Jacob Volunteer Fire Dept. (38 years); Madison County Farm Bureau; Former member of St. Jacob Village Board; St. Jacob Homecoming Assoc; 4-H Leader . Harold was born and grew up northeast of St. Jacob and attended Oak Grove School. He graduated Highland High School in 1941. He worked on the family farm and was active in 4-H and Madison County Rural Youth. He had worked for Madison Service Co. in Edwardsville, Highland Elevator, Wheat\'s LP Gas in Highland, Bergmann-Taylor Seeds in St. Jacob, Morstain Transfer in Highland, St. Jacob Grade School, and in addition he farmed most of his life. In his retirement he raised sheep. He lived all of his life in St. Jacob, except for the last five years when he was a resident of Faith Countryside Nursing Home in Highland. He enjoyed St. Louis Cardinal Baseball, working Bingo at Madison County Firemen\'s Hall in Collinsville, playing cards, spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and helping them show 4-H animals at the Madison County Fair.
