Germain L. Mayer

Germain L. Mayer, age 92 of Marine, IL, died Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra, IL. She was born on Sunday, September 04, 1921, in Highland, IL, the daughter of John E. and Edna (nee Clayton) Schmitt. On Saturday, October 26, 1940, she married Eldon J. Mayer. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Marine, IL; St. Elizabeth Altar Society and Helvetia Sharpshooters Society. Germain was born at Highland and grew up East of St. Jacob on a farm. After her marriage she and her husband moved onto the Mayer Farm. They farmed and raised beef and dairy cattle. She lived there the rest of her life. The couple retired from farming in 1985. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, dancing, embroidery, sewing, baking, and travelling. She and her husband went to Lindendale Park every Saturday night to dance. Korsmeyer, Highland, IL Great Grandchild - Evonna J. Korsmeyer, Highland, IL Great Grandchild - Nathanial B. Straube, Alhambra, IL Great Grandchild - Nevin J. Straube, Alhambra, IL. She was preceded in death by: Father - John E. Schmitt Mother - Edna Schmitt (nee Clayton) Husband - Eldon Jerome Mayer (died 03/31/2008) Sister - Bernice I. Brasel (died 7/19/2007). Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Marine, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 AM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Marine, IL and from 8:00 AM to 9:45 AM, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Marine, IL. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Marine, IL., with Father Pat G. Jakel, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be at St Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery in Marine, IL. Memorial contributions may be made as Masses or St. Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery or St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.
