Francis J. Frey

Francis John Frey, age 78, of Highland, IL., died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL. He was born January 28, 1931, in Highland, IL., the son of Herman and Margaret (Baumgartner) Frey. On May 2, 1956, he married Gertrude Ann Frey, nee Strubhart who survives in Highland. Mr. Frey was born north east of Highland on a farm where he grew up. He attended Immaculate Conception School in Pierron. He served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict [Nov.24,19 50-Nov. 10,1953] with duty in Germany and Korea. He was wounded in Korea, earning a Purple Heart; he was discharged, with two Bronze Service Stars, as Sgt. First Class. He worked at Alton Box Board Co. in Highland, retiring in January of 1980 as Quality Controller Supervisor from Smurfit Stone Container Corporation. In his retirement, he worked at First National Bank as a custodian for six years. He enjoyed deer hunting, yard work, nature, the out-of-doors, and family time. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church-Highland, IL. He was also a member of Former member of Union at Smurfit Stone Box Co.; American Legion #439 - Highland; Disabled American Veterans-Forget Me Knot Chapter #24.
