Eli Vukson

Eli Vukson, age 79 of Highland, IL, died Monday, May 05, 2014, at Meridian Village Care Center in Glen Carbon, IL. He was born on Friday, May 11, 1934, in Council Bluffs, IA, the son of Rade and Smiljiana (nee Tresnich) Vukson. On Saturday, July 31, 1965, he married Diane K. Vukson (nee Johnson) who survives. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, O'Fallon, IL, former member-Our Lord's Lutheran Church, Maryville, IL (former President of Congregation). Born and reared in Council Bluffs, Iowa; graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School; later graduated from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, with a BS in engineering. He worked for Motorola, Chicago, IL and Phoenix, AZ, there he designed a communication relay for the Lunar Rover (from rover to shuttle). He then worked for Resdel Engineering, California; Stewart-Warner, Chicago, IL; Basler Electric, Highland, IL, in 1976 for 18 years; Scott Air Force Base in 1994 for 5 years, then he retired. He loved reading about the Civil War, World War II and history. He enjoyed time with his extended family. Eli liked to be out in nature. He and his wife traveled to China, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, the Panama Canal and Central America. With his employment he traveled to many Middle Eastern Countries. Survivors include: Wife - Diane K. (fiance-Darin Sheary) Vukson, East Alton, IL Brother In-law - Steve (Myrna) Johnson, Champaign, IL Nieces and Nephews - Many He was preceded in death by: Father - Rade Vukson Mother - Smiljiana Vukson Brother - George Mistovich Sister - Mary Nelson Sister - Mildred Holder Sister - Sophie Mistovich Sister - Lubi Vukson (died as an infant) Sister - Lubi Paulsen Sister - Angela Vukson (died as a child) Brother - Joe Vukson Brother - Mike Vukson Brother - Nick Vukson Sister - Helyn Braniff Brother - Dan Vukson Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 08, 2014, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, and from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, on Friday, May 09, 2014, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Memorial service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 09, 2014, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, with Rev. Robert Downs, Pastor, Faith Lutheran Church, O Fallon, IL, officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson's Foundation or Vitas Hospice.
