Donald L. Gunter Sr

Donald L. Gunter Sr., age 80 of Highland, IL, died Sunday, December 15, 2013, at Alhambra Care Center in Alhambra, IL. He was born July 10, 1933, in Cape Girardeau, MO, the son of Harry O. and Della (nee Boyce) Gunter. On June 09, 1957, he married Bonnie L. Stuby who passed away on March 21, 2006. He was a member of Family Bible Church. He was also a member of ICWUC International Union; 3rd Degree Mason; and a Shriner. Donald was born in Cape Girardeau, MO and moved to Carmi, IL where he graduated High School. He then entered the US Navy during the Korean War. After the war he attended SIUC and studied Zoology. He and his wife and family moved to East St. Louis and he was employed with American Zink. He later worked for Ethyl Corporation and retired after 27 years. He moved to Highland in 1970. In retirement he and his wife visited St. Petersburg, FL annually. Donald loved his family, loved to travel, and liked playing golf, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Fan. Gunter Sister - Dora Estes Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, and from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, on Thursday, December 19, 2013, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 19, 2013, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, with Pastor Bill Dempsey officiating. Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL with Full Military Honors provided by Highland VFW and American Legion Posts. Memorial contributions may be made to Alhambra Care Center or Highland High School Football Program.
