Dennis E. Hoefle

Dennis E. Hoefle, age 75 of Carlyle, IL, died Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at VA Medical Center - Jefferson Barracks Division in Saint Louis, MO. He was born on Sunday, November 16, 1941, in Highland, IL, the son of Earl and Gladys (nee Essenpreis) Hoefle. On, April 20, 1962, he married Shirley J. Adams, at Grantfork E & R Church, Grantfork, IL, who passed away on January 31, 1992. On, September 11, 1992, he married Betty J. Deweese (nee Baker), at Greenville, IL, who passed away on October 26, 1995. He was a member of Lincoln Landers; Marine Lion's Club, Marine, IL; VFW Post 5694, Highland, IL; Hoosier Cruisers; Family Motor Coach Assoc.. He was born and reared at Grantfork,, IL; graduated from Highland High School, Highland, IL, in 1959. He served with the US Navy from 06/1959 to 12/1962 on the USS Forrestal for over three years also briefly on the USS Enterprise. He drove over the road for Slater Trucking and Gordon Trucking. He then sold cars for a few years; he owned and operated Western Auto in Highland; briefly he sold insurance and then he was a car salesman for Tri-Ford retiring in 2000. He retired and became a "Snowbird" with his poodle "Snowie". He travelled the country in his motorhome. He wintered in Arizona but travelled all of the United States when not in Arizona. His friend and companion, Louise Moore, travelled with him for 16 years. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed travelling to races. Survivors include: Daughter - Dawn D. (Terry) Gaines, Wood River, IL Daughter - Tonya J. (Terry) Kroon, Sugar Hill, GA Step Grandchild - Amanda M. Gaines, Minneapolis, MN. He was preceded in death by: Father - Earl W. Hoefle - Died 06/19/1987 Mother - Gladys A. Hoefle, nee Essenpreis - Died 05/19/2002 First Wife - Shirley J. Hoefle, nee Adams - Died 01/31/1992 Second Wife - Betty J. Deweese Hoefle, nee Baker - Died 10/26/1995. Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Funeral service will be at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL., with Rev. Christopher W. Hill, Senior Pastor, Evangelical United Church of Christ, Highland, IL, officiating. Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Marine Lion's Club.
