Darrel M. Landolt

Darrel Melvin Landolt, age 73, of Highland, IL., died Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at his residence in Highland, IL. He was born May 30, 1937, in Highland, IL., the son of Arlo and Vesta (Kraus) Landolt. On January 6, 1957, he married Jane E. Landolt nee Gause , who survives. Darrel was born at Highland, grew up on the family farm Northeast of Grantfork, IL, and attended IXL Country School; graduated from Highland High School in 1954. He started working at the 4-5-6 Company as an farm equipment assembler and then did auto body work. He worked at Butler Chevrolet as an auto body man, as a Adjuster at State Farm Ins. for 7 years; returned to Butler Chevrolet as Shop Foreman; operated his own bodyshop in Highland (Darrel\'s Autobody) for 7 years and then returned to State Farm as an Adjuster for the next 20 years until retiring in 1999. He was always very active in the Masonic Lodge; enjoyed woodworking (building Curio Cabinets, furniture, etc). He played the Accordian, Harmonica and Guitar. Most Sundays would find him at the Millersburg Store playing music with friends as part of the Millersburg Jammers; with the Homespun Players he would entertain at local nursing homes and senior citizens centers. Darrel was unselfish in helping friends, neighbors and relatives. He was a dedicated father and husband who lived for his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed birds and wildlife at his retirement home he and his sons built, in the country. He was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ-Highland, IL. He was also a member of Highland Masonic Lodge #583 AF & AM (Master twice); Ainad Temple (Shriners);Scottish Rite Bodies;Silver Lake Shrine Club(PastPresident);Highland Pistol & Rifle Club; Highland Sportsmen\'s Club; Millersburg Sunday Jammers; Homespun Players. Survivors include Wife-Jane E. Landolt nee Gause of Highland, Ill., Son-Darrel D. (Karen) Landolt of Highland, Ill., Son-Michael R. (Roxanne) Landolt of Highland, Ill., Son-David L. (Kathy) Landolt of Highland, Ill., Grandchild-Michael G. (Fiancee Shannon Lucas) Landolt, Grandchild-Christopher D. (Special Friend Heather Sowash) Landolt, Grandchild-Nicholas L. Landolt, Grandchild-Stephanie A. Landolt, Brother-Arlo U. (Eunice) Landolt of Baton Rouge, La., Sister-Faye B. (Sonny) Heller of Topeka, Kan., Sister-Sheryl S. (David) Sauer of Centralia, Ill., Nieces & Nephews-Many . He was preceded in death by Father-Arlo M. Landolt DOD 02/11/1997, Mother-Vesta Landolt, nee Kraus DOD 08/31/1987, Brother-Nyles Neal Landolt, died 1958 as infant Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill.
