She was born on Wednesday, December 24, 1941, in Highland, IL, the daughter of Dorothy Marie (nee Schwyzer). Darlene was born and reared in Highland. Graduated from Highland High School in 1960; after she married she and her husband lived on the Steinkoenig Dairy Farm where they reared their children. She worked for Chastains Nursing Home later named Highland Health Care Center; Jakel's Manufacturing; Basler Electric and Faith Countryside Homes. She and her husband John ran a laundry mat in Belleville, IL. She returned to Highland in 1986. She enjoyed watching the Food Channel on tv, baking and cooking.
