Calvin J. Broughton

Calvin J. Broughton, age 80, of Highland, IL., died Monday, January 7, 2008, at Elmwood Nursing & Rehabilitation in Maryville, IL. He was born December 16, 1927, in Lincoln, IL., the son of Calvin and Henrietta (Bicknell) Broughton. On June 18, 1950, he married Mary H. Broughton, nee Anderson , who passed away December 16, 2006. Born in Lincoln, IL, graduated Lincoln High School in 1945, He served in the US Navy for two years on the USS Enterprise. He attended Lincoln College and then Illinois State College in 1946 and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in 1950. Calvin and his wife had lived in many communities, Lee\'s Center, IL, Amboy, IL, Freeport, IL, Milwaukee, WI, Milwaukee, OR and moved to Highland in 1977. He had worked at Crunden Martin Corp. in St. Louis as plant manager, and later for Korte Construction for 10 years retiring in March of 2004. Calvin enjoyed reading, duck hunting, being outdoors, gardening and flying kites. He was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ, Highland, IL. He was also a member of Highland Diabetic Support Group Silver Lake Shrine Club Masonic Orders; Shriners of Freeport, IL. Survivors include Son-Calvin D. Broughton of Springfield, Va., Son-Curtis M. (Anne) Broughton of Normal, Ill., Daughter-Mary Beth Broughton of Highland, Ill., Son-Christopher J. (Patty) Broughton of Tucson, Ariz., Grandchild-Christine (Chuck) Ostertag, Grandchild-Katherine Broughton, Grandchild-Michael Broughton, Grandchild-Jacob Broughton, Step Grandchild-Mike (Missy) Hamilton, Step Grandchild-Brad (Jennifer) Hamilton, Step Gr - Grandchild-Olivia Hamilton, Step Gr - Grandchild-Emma Hamilton, Step Gr - Grandchild-Taylor Hamilton, Brother-Dean (Mary Ann) Broughton of Petersburg, Ill., Bro-In-Law&Sis-In-Law-Charles (Dorothy) Anderson of Belleville, Ill., Sis-In-Law & Bro-In-Law-Julie (Paul) Brady of Philo, Ill. He was preceded in death by Father-Calvin O. Broughton, Mother-Henrietta M. Broughton, nee Bicknell, Wife-Mary H. Broughton, nee Anderson (dod 12/16/06), Brother-Dale Broughton, died 9/2002 Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill.
