Blanche L. Hediger

Blanche L. Hediger, age 80 of Highland, IL, died Friday, April 08, 2016, at Faith Care Center in Highland, IL. She was born June 28, 1935, in Clay County, IL, the daughter of Arthur and Edith (nee Koehler) Werner. On June 28, 1952, she married Loyd L. Hediger at Highland, IL. He passed away on October 6, 2001. She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ. She was also a member of Highland Garden Club. Blanche grew up in Highland and graduated Highland High School in 1952. After her marriage, she and her husband lived on a farm nine miles south of Greenville, IL. They moved to Highland in 1961. Blanche started working for the Highland Community Schools after her children were in school. She worked in the office of the Primary and Upper-Elementary School for over 25 years, and was well liked by administration, teachers, parents and students. Together, she and her husband farmed 38 acres in Wisetown. Summers were spent camping, tending their vegetable garden and preserving vegetables and jelly. She started collecting salt and pepper shakers at age 13. She has collected nearly 500 sets. She was an avid card player (spades, euchre, and pinochle) and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. She acquired her Master Gardener Certification in 2003 and continued her membership in the Highland Garden Club. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL., with Rev. Christopher W. Hill officiating. Interment will be at Jamestown Cemetery in Jamestown, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Highland Garden Club Glik Park Project or Education Plus at Highland Upper Elementary School.
